Communities In Schools of Broward

Families and Schools Together (FAST) and Student Advocacy Services and Case Management -- CIS recognizes the vital role of engaged parenting in the social and academic development of young people. Whether promoting communication between parents and their children, or fostering role-modeling opportunities for adults, CIS facilitates family development exercises through its FAST program at designated school sites. FAST is a research-based, early intervention/prevention multi-family group process.

The program follows a three-step process to enhance family functioning, prevent academic failure, prevent substance abuse and manage the stress of daily experiences. Students at FAST school sites are also eligible to receive Student Advocacy Services which uses an individualized case-management approach. Services provided to these students include supportive guidance, educational enhancement assistance, heath and human services referrals, family support help and any other needs that are barriers to school success.

Academic Services -- Certified by the Broward County Schools as a provider of Supplemental Education Services, CIS addresses academic concerns by providing after-school tutoring to underachieving children at no cost to the family.

Prevention Education and Prevention Services – With strong and broad-based community support, CIS provides drug prevention activities, services to teen parents, anger management, and gang and violence prevention activities. CIS staff also makes home visits, and interfaces with parents to build strong families and familial student support. This highly effective approach includes conducting parent/student activities.
