Discover Your World S.T.E.M Mentoring Programs

Organization Description:

Discover Your World S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Mentoring Programs bring additional experiences to youth in schools and the community. Acknowledging the importance of inquiry based instruction is our top priority.

The Discover Your World Tour is organized for afterschool programs, science nights, and weekend workshops. During the afterschool program, students spend some of their time participating in enrichment activities that support instruction that is provided during the regular school day.

Discover Your Summer is an extension to the afterschool program. Students are actively involved in a variety of activities that include; creating solar ovens, learning how to filter and purify water, building model rockets, exploring chemical reactions, and much more.

All of our programs encourage elementary and middle school students to explore Math, Science, and Technology. The hands on inquiry based activities/lessons are in direct correlation with national and state standards.

Our mission is to expose children to the wonderful world of S.T.E.M, (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). We encourage and inspire youth to explore S.T.E.M through fun, hands- on interactive activities. It is our goal to build scientific literacy to prepare our youth for 21st Century experiences, A part of our mission is to expose and encourage more minorities, including females to explore the STEM arena. We acknowledge the increasing need for more diversity in the (STEM) Science, Technology Engineering and Math fields. We have a vision to meet that need by offering opportunities to students when curiosity and creativity is at its peak; elementary, middle, and high school. The Discover Your World program builds scientific literacy and supports the youth in making real world connections to what they are learning in school. Changing attitudes and increasing motivation will ultimately increase a student’s performance in the classroom and on the state assessments.
